Hello all, Meow has been quite busy the last few months, and has not posted much here. As Meow does less than half the amount of CRH as Meow used to do. But Meow still goes to the bank on a regular basis to get rolls. Another reason why Meow has not posted much is the fact Meow mostly CRHs quarter rolls, and a lot of the rolls Meow has been getting have been BU rolls. So in last few months Meow has good bundle of 2021 d Crossing the Delaware quarters in the Cat Hoard. But today, Meow was able to get in paw some 2022 d Maya Anglelou ones. The first ones Meow put paws on this year. Todays bank haul was 20 Bu quarter rolls, and 20 BU 2021 d penny rolls. So not much to hunt there, just hoard. But Meow has noticed that no one here collects BU rolls like Meow does. They are so shiny it puts a big smile on this Cat's face.
Collect what you like. For me, BU rolls don't do it. But to each their own. I did keep a roll of the 2022P Maya Angelou from last week's boxes though.
I don't collect BU rolls usually. Still have a couple cents and nickel ones I think. Mostly go thru quarter and nickel rolls to look for really high grade ones to keep one or two of an issue. Have significantly cut back on that as it gets harder to be trying to use them (purchases). I don't have a dump bank and for the most part I use a card that gives me some $ back on purchases which helps me so my roll hunting is more a real sideline.
I built rolls for Lincoln and Jefferson by date/mm. The newer rolls are AU/BU from CRH of old and going through change.
BU rolls hold about as much interest for me as kitty litter. If I had any, I'd sell them and use the funds to buy something interesting.
I have a few uncirculated rolls, but my favorite ones are 59 P Roosevelt dimes, 63 D Roosevelt dimes, and 64 P and D Roosevelt dimes.
It is a bit of a mental struggle. When is it hoarding and when is it collecting? I suppose that I initially put the rolls together thinking that I could trade with other collectors for things I needed or wanted. But it's beyond that. During the CRH days, I'd occasionally get a collector's box filled with dumped treasures. For instance, I caught a box littered with 60's BU coins, some dates containing a number of Variety coins to hunt. I picked through and set those aside in flips...but what to do with all those BU coins? I filled a tube for the date and/or date/mm and created the start of my BU rolls. But I still had hundreds of BU 60's nickels. I kept them. Why? I'm not sure...maybe they are too nice for circulation. But honestly, I haven't looked at them in years. The paradox continues...
I will stash SOME BU rolls if I get them. maybe 2 of each. Recently got rid of some that I really had no reason to hang onto. I will save a couple Maya Angelou rolls if I come across them, I hang on to the until I see mintage numbers, and if those are high I have no problem selling them or dumping them. I do like to keep one of each, and I will get a PDS set from the mint for keeps.
I did collect rolls for over 50 years. But about 3 years ago I went through all of them and pulled the best and sold the rest. Lots of nice RPM LHC's, clashes, 1995 doubled dies, 1998 WAM's, OMM nickels all sorts of good stuff. The best I had ANACS slab and been slowly selling them on EBAY to further my classic U.S. coin sets.
The only BU rolls I collect are the ones I hold on to for a l-o-o-n-n-g-g-g time and then dump for a hopeful profit.
I have some rolls of Wheat Cents my grandmother hoarded in the 1960s. I have them mostly to remember her. I have a few rolls of circulated, full date Buffalo Nickels that I sell off now and then. That's it. I have literally a couple thousand coins, tokens and medals. Aside from the rolls I mentioned, there are very few duplicates. I have three Delaware commemorative half dollars. I still have them because I have never found the perfect one, and have kept all three. I would sell the one with the CAC sticker in the MS-65 holder, because I like it the least, but I'd lose money on it. I was born and raised in Delaware. At one time the 1938 (dated 1936) half dollar was about the only thing you could collect from the state. There are very few merchant tokens, no Hard Times and Civil War tokens and a few medals. Now the mint has issued some quarters, but none of them are exciting.
I keep a roll or two of the designs I like. Maya makes the cut but unfortunately I haven't ran into any rolls, only a few coins here and there in each box.
You do? Hmm sounds nice but Meow has been getting them at the bank lately so was not looking to acquire them from others at the moment. In fact Meow just today got another 10 rolls of MA quarters and 20 more 2021 d penny rolls at the bank.
Meow opened an account at a certain bank because they seem to regularly get BU rolls. Maybe a certain bank near you has the same. Meow's old bank hardly ever gets BU rolls. Meow is recognized in a few branches at that bank as the Cat that wants shiny rolls.
Meow has been thinking that maybe Meow has too many random circulated penny rolls lying about in the Cat Hoard. So Meow only hoards the BU ones. At least they are shiny little treasures to look at. Meow should search the random rolls, and spend them to make space for BU ones.
