So I bought a Gordian III today

You guys know me, I'm not really a Gordian III fan. It's not like I have a bag full of Gordian III coins and have started two dozen posts in this forum to talk about Gordian III. Right? Anyway, when @Mat offered me one of his wonderful Gordie III coins today, I bought it.

It is an old picture (over 6 years old), and I normally wouldn't buy based on such an old picture, but I have a feeling that this coin is a real gem in the hand. Plus the whole die (including the border dots) is visible in this deliciously large flan, which is a huge plus for any ancient coin.

    Gordian III (238 - 244 A.D.)
    AR Antoninianus
O: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, from behind.
R: VICTORIA AETERNA, Victory standing left, leaning on shield, holding palm frond in left, captive at feet left.
    Rome
    4.7g., 23mm
    RIC 156

And since I don't think Gordian III gets the attention he deserves around here, post any Gordie you like.

I'll spare you guys the trouble of seeing my other 16 Gordian III coins again though....oops, did I say 16? I meant a few. I'm not addicted to Gordian III coins...honest! Believe me...

I like it. I may not be a Gordian fan, but he certainly had the misfortune of living in interesting times.

Cool, I like on the OP coin how the whole die is on the flan. I have a couple of provincials for ol' Gordie, the first from Singara in Mesopotamia and the second from Marcianopolis in Thrace:

Mine is lower grade, a little different legend VICTOR AETER and has more rear wing.

Looks like a nice coin, heaps of detail. Got a few Gordies but this Thracian temple in perspective is my favorite. 20160925_152545.jpg 20160925_152525.jpg

That's plenty o' flan, alright... and a neat reverse too.

This roach crawled into my house last month. I think she's pretty sweet for a roach...

Stunning style. I really like it. That's another roach I'm hunting for.

    Nice addition @Sallent
So I'll go ahead and post the Gordie that opened the gates to his coins to somewhat dominate my collection.
This was the second addition to the 8 or so G III that I have now. For sentamental reasons my favorite G III.

It is a nice coin & I will miss it, but thanks to parting with it, I have a "beefy" Gordy ant. on the way  from @Victor_Clark.

I love seeing that coin. It was my first Gordie and started my Gordian addiction. I'm so glad you own it now as I know it is in an excellent home.

Thanks. It's the ONLY coin in my collection that was given to me for no reason. It'll be a cold day in hell before I part with it.

That is a pretty sweet flan indeed. I'm very fond of my only roach (wouldn't want 'em to breed!), part of my Farnese Hercules sub-collection:

You need some more Gordie bronzes, @Sallent! :) (They don't count as roaches!)

Lately I've tried to snag a Gordie as Caesar, no luck yet though.

Here is one of mine. There are loads of shiny Gordian's! This one, unfortunately, is not one of them.
