I was looking to get thoughts on the new "DISCOVERY" of the so called "SPEARED BISON". In searching through Ebay, I found that these coins are selling for well over $100 and are still climbing. It seems that since Coin World featured it, the prices are getting higher. Then PCGS comes in and gives the coin its own number right away. ANy thoughts on the future of this coin? Worth holding on to a few of them?
It depends on what appeals to your personal taste I guess. Personally, if I were to find one I'd just sell it now and count my blessings.
If I found one I'd keep it. Since this minor error is named by the grading companies it will always be popular and also because of the popularity of the Bison Nickel. This error has eye appeal which adds in value. I don't know if I'd pay over a hundred for it, but I wouldn't mind owning one.
Yeah, I think I will hold on to a couple. I have twin 16 year old boys and I could leave them to them in the will, if they don't kill me before I get one made out. It definitly has eye appeal, and that may be the driving force behind the prices the way they are. But, the floor may fall out of it like the Wisconsin extra leaf is. Prices are dropping fast on that one.
When the Wisconsin thing was discovered. There was a great deal of controversy over how serious an error/variety it was. Seems that the wounded Bison has gotten a pass on the same questions about how important it is. Anyway, I would not be a buyer right now at full retail. I expect that once the hysteria is over, the prices will drop.
