I may have just made up for the bad purchases I have made. I just bought this so called dollar on Ebay. This medal in the original container has a R6 for the combination, and it has a beautiful toning to it. I know the picture is bad, but I took a chance. If it is in good shape, it could be worth three times what I paid for it. At the very least the medal with the original container is probably worth what I paid.
Looks interesting. You'll have to post some better pics when the piece arrives. It wouldn't be the first time someone hit a home run with bad e-bay pics.
I assume the first thing to do after I receive this is to get a good picture and get it graded. I found someone close to me who will take care of the grading. How much should I expect the cost to be?
Graded, as sent into a third party grader? I suppose so, if that's what you want to do. If it were me, and I found the purchase likeable, I'd just leave it be.
I would like to get it graded because in mint state the medal alone is worth 200 to 1000 dollars (before the rise in silver prices). This has been in its box for years so it could be in mint state. With the box the HA auction gives about a $500 price, and that medal was not as nice as what this one is. No matter what I plan on keeping this medal. Also if it is worth a lot, I will need to get insurance on it.
Looks nice New, but why don't you post a better pic when you get the medal and let us have a go at it. It seems to me that you should leave it the way it is if it's in the original packaging. Taking it out to have it graded might be a mistake as far as value goes. Congratulations though...nice pickup. Bruce
All I have in cameras is one used for general pictures. (about the same as what was used by the person originally photographing it) Is there some way to get a picture commercially? Also any suggestions as to how to protect the medal once I get it?
