I was given an SMI Buffalo silver round a few years ago. I realize it's not an actual mint issue coin. More of a novelty collectors thing. When I look them up online, I see they they sell for about $40.00 each. This isn't exactly something I'm interested in collecting. I've had it stored away in a closet. It resides in plastic sleeve that it was shipped with from the manufacturer. When I looked at it yesterday, I can see that there's tarnish that has begun to build up on it already. I really have no desire to dip it and clean it up at all. Think it's worth it to keep it? Just maybe store it better and just let it reside in the collection in the closet for sometime in the future? Or dump it while I can? What are your thoughts? I'm not even sure how popular or collectible the thing is. I looked online and I can find them easily for sale. Can't be a huge demand for them, is there? Your opinions are appreciated on this coin. Have you tried an Acetone Bath. They keep telling me telling me that ( voices in my head) . Oh , I'll take it .
Thanks SensibleSal! Thing is, I really have no desire to do much to the coin. Just not my thing. Just trying to see if I should hold onto it and store it away for a rainy day, or just dump it and get something I enjoy? LOL. I'm more of an early copper kind of guy. This just doesn't "do it" for me.
Me too. Love the Coppers . Since I Metal Detected a number of years , I fell for them like the "bug " . Love the history behind them.
Acetone won't help with toning. I too seem to have a batch of these things that well meaning relatives over the years have sent as gifts and the like. And like yourself, they tend to stay hidden in my stuff. Perhaps there is a market out there for these decorative rounds. I haven't investigated to see. At least it will always be worth spot.
Rounds like this will only sell for spot at the most, or $1-$2 less than spot if selling to a dealer. They sell for $1-$2 over spot.
