Which coin will be worth the greatest amount above purchase price the fastest among the 2006 gold coins? I noticed that the ounce, and half ounces seem to sell out the fastest. The half ouncer has the lower mintage, but I'm drawn toward the quarter ounce because I'm cheap. If they increase in value quickly, I'd rather have one of the larger coins.
I would think that, going against tradition, the smaller coins, specifically the tenth ounce, would increase the most in value. Many collectors cannot afford the full ounce or the half ounce with the mint prices these days. Less demand =lower prices.
I've always thought that in the long run, the half ounce would be the best to own because of the low mintage and because it is the only $25 denomination ever made and a lot of people will need it in their collections someday.
Hi...Gold is just that gold...most modern American Eagles are related to bullion and regardless of which denomination you buy in uncirculated the potential for the $$ increase will remain the same. Keep in mind that there is usually a 10-20% fee for buying or selling so with that in mind short term investing in Gold may be something you want to check out on the futures or margin accounts through a broker. If gains is the primary objective..thats what I would do. If for say you had an interest in collecting the entire series 1986-to present in all demominations..well that my friend I have been doing for several years..long road..and when gold gets this high..you at times sit back and wait till correction to buy the common coins. For the key dates in the series (all denominations) buy those first starting with the 1999 "w" errors. For proof coins..that can be different..for circulated gold coins of yesteryear..you better have a deep checkbook. Good luck. RickieB
Excellent point! I just noticed the low mintage of that issue the other day, and the difference is significant compared to mintages of the other gold eagle denominations. This seems to be consistently true throughout most if not all years of issue, if I remember correctly.
