today I bought a coin that looks just like a ASE except that it is the size of a quarter. it is a cameo proof from the year 2000. the reverse is the same as the ASE, except that it says ".999 pure silver" and below that it says "the millennium eagle" does anybody know what this is or if its a real ASE? sorry don't have a good camera to take a picture.

From a breif look on google it sounds like a commemorative for the new millennium. But that sounds awfully small for a commemorative. Maybe a copy of a larger one? That's all I found though. I'm sure someone can give all the details, but I figured I'd atleast get it started.

It might be silver but it is NOT an ASE and is not from the US government.

Agreed, it sounds like a privately minted silver round. It's not a product of the US mint and it caries the value of the silver content. Some of these can actually be really neat...but they aren't "coins" as we define them. I have something similar, a while back I picked up a .999 silver dime token that has Ronald Reagan on the front rather than FDR.

Conder 101 is correct, as it is a private mint silver round.

It should say a weight, such as 1Tr.Oz. Many minters use any event to produce a round.
