I have some holes in my collection of presidential dollars so I thought I'd fill it CRHing. I ordered $2k in small dollars. Wow, what happens to these coins. Most of the coins I received are in terrible condition. I am really surprised since I never see anyone actually spending these coins. Where are they being used and abused?

So, far I've learned that the Canadian dollar is the same size, color and weight of the US golden dollar and blends in well. There is also another country's coin (British Virgin Islands or something) that is similar and fits in the rolls.

Found a couple of proofs that got into circulation. Too bad their scratched up.

I just can't figure out how so many end up in such poor condition for a coin that doesn't really circulate.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Circulation is a local matter. Some transit systems use them heavily. The courthouse in which I worked from 2001-2005 used them heavily in the lunchroom vending machines. I used to use them for PA turnpike tolls, just to screw with the toll takers. Now I take Amtrak and buy monthly passes.

That's a good point. I never thought that they might be used in other places. In fact, I just read an article that El Salvador adopted the US Dollar as its currency about 20 years ago and heavily uses the dollar coin there instead of the greenbacks.

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

There's talk of Greece dumping the Euro and adopting the US dollar as its national currency.
