It's a large date. Now, just be sure to have your thick skin on.....

Lol, fair enough, I was looking for advice. The top of the 8 seems smaller than the bottom part and that's how I've been separating them for the other varieties.

The date and overall lettering on the large is noticeably thicker than on the small. Another tell is that the 2 on the large resembles a swan. The link below should be helpful in learning to differentiate between the two...

I realize you were only hoping for advice, but this has become an exceedingly common question as of late and is why I suggested the thick skin thing. Unfortunately, such threads often go downhill quickly, and is why I thought it best to offer a fair warning.

Also, and just for future reference, threads are not deleted upon request.

You don't delete it. That was my point. :)

    Welcome to the forum, Mikee.

Oh, odd. There's no way to delete a thread you create?

    No.

However, I've since noticed that you started two on the same subject, so the mods will likely combine them if they see fit.

Yeah, I wasn't sure where to post this, the original email from the heritage auctions error guy said to post on error thread, so I recreated it.

I struggled with this for a little while until I reviewed some pictures like the ones you can find at the link @BooksB4Coins shared. I focus on the 2, that's the tell tale sign for me. The small date is curvier

I've been focusing on the 8 myself. I'll have to look at both from now on.

The 2 is the easiest diagnostic. (Save this pic for future reference)

Yep, that makes sense. The top of the 8 is tiny, hence why I've been focusing on that for small date varieties.

My guess, which is partly based upon recent threads here, is that they're getting an awful lot of questions about coins well outside of the type of material they handle, so it's easier to send such folks to a forum where we can deal with it for free.

This would also seem to suggest that we're not the only ones having to deal with the mess made by YouTube (and the like) clowns spewing BS for views.

The internet giveth and the internet taketh away.

My channel tries not to misinform people. I don't like it when people do that for views.

The 2 is the key. They are radically different.

Yeah, that is very clear, the 2 is much slimmer and prettier on the small date. At some point I'll have to go through the copper in my first 1 gallon glass jar and look more closely at the 82D. I didn't use to look at them all, so there's a chance (ever so microscopic of one, lol) that I could have thrown one in with the junk copper. I think that jar weighs something like 50 pounds now.
