I recently purchased this PCGS MS64 1934D Heavy Motto Washington quarter. It is not attributed to have a small D mint mark on the holder. (In essence, a 1934D obverse with a 1932D reverse). Based on the literature and photos I can find and comparing the mint mark to the ANACS graded 1934D small D coin that I have (VG8), I have to almost overwhelmingly say that it is a small D (it appears to have machine doubling on the west edge of the mint mark as well as several letters on the reverse, especially in the letters of Quarter). I have been searching for one of these for some time. I did the best i could with the photos. What do you think?
