i was looking at some of the anthony dollars i have, and this one caught my attention. at the 2:00 position of front, there is a extra blob of metal there. it this a cud?
Do you mean on top of the rim ? All I can see is part of the rim that looks shiny. Is that area higher than the rest of the rim or something ?
Sure looks like a cud. If the transition from the rim and the raised metal is smooth, it's usually a cud, but if it there's an area where the rim and the extra metal don't meet, then it's usually added post-mint for whatever reason. That's how it seems in my experience, anyway. I'm not sure of the value, but SBAs with cuds seem fairly uncommon. Nice find!
the raised metal on the coin is definatly smooth, and is just like a normal rim, but it is raised, then it slopes down and is normal again.
Yep, probably a rim cud. Unfortunately, it doesn't extend into the design element. It's more common for them to end at the rim, then for them to extend into the field or design. As for value, I don't know, but it's a cool looking coin. Rim cuds on SBAs are always cooler because of the pronounced rim. Don't take my word as gospel, but I'm fairly certain it's a nice example of a rim cud. P.S., there's a Canadian coin with die breaks around the entire edge. I read about it in the Error Coin Encyclopedia. Apparently, it's the only 360 degree cud known to exist. How about finding that sucker in a roll?
