I was going through a bag that had a lot of byzantine coins and perhaps Roman. The reverse did not have a lot of info but a portrait and partial legend are showing.

The reverse does not help. If I look at it long enough, I see faces but not on the photos.

Such a small coin. The bag of coins were mostly culls from various time periods.

On the portrait side I think I read, "VALE..."maybe Valens or Valentinian?

    Somehow further out seems clearer.

I could definitely, possibly, perhaps, see VALEN on the obverse. I'm like 90% on seeing ALE at least.

It sorta reminds me of a vandal or Ostrogoth issue but I’m not sure.

It's probably too small for Valens or Valentinian I. Both Valentinian II and II had very smalls AE4s. There are many Vandalic-era imitations of these coins, too, but the official issues were so crudely made that I don't know how to distinguish official issues from imitations.

Probably Valentinian II or III. Valentinian III reigned for 30 years - between 425 and 455 A.D., so I'd bet on him, and by this time the bronze issues were horrific in size, weight, and style.
