What is the difference on the small holders between the Red/Orange A on the reverse vs the gold A??

All I have are two, large gold A's on a black background, and these are slabs I got from ANACS when they were in Ohio about 15 years ago.

Were they for coins you submitted to ANACS? If so, how long ago? It may just be that ANACS chose to change the format of the label from time to time to thwart counterfeiters.

They are all Buffalo nickels my father submitted. The slabs are slightly smaller in width compared to the gold A's.

Time... the red ones were the first hologram that Amos Press used and then they changed to Gold. Or the other way around...

After Amos Press bought ANACS in 1990, their first holograms were the small red A's. These had no barcodes. The barcodes were added in 91 or 92 and had 17 digits. In 1997 the size or the A's were increased and the color changed (to me they appear silver gray, some others have called them green.) in April 2000 the barcode was increased to 19 characters. There was a change in the font of the front label text in August of 2005, After Feb 2006 the small size slab was only used for problem coins and has blue ANACS logo under print on the front label (there are three different varieties of these), and a new label style was introduced. (these were the first slabs of which fakes were detected in March of 2007) In September 2007 the small size slabs were discontinued.

I'm completely confused now. This has the red A and a barcode. All my consecutive s/n Buffalo's do.

Right ... Cert# is low six digits so in it towards the earlier days of the Amos/SWH.

By the end, they were over 2 million...

Look at my post again, the Amos Press started in 90 with red A's and no barcode, the barcode started in 91 or 92 and those still had red A's, in 1997 the increased the size of the A's and changed the color. So your slabs date between roughly 1992 and 1997.
