I have submitted some coins to auction companies that take over two months to get graded and placed in auction.

What would be the maximum amount of time that it could take to get a coin graded?

First you ship the coin registered/insured which could take up to two weeks, probably longer during holiday periods. It goes through economy service which has been known to run 40 business days, or around two months calendar days during busy times. Next it gets shipped back to you registered insured, so all tolled, you could be looking at two and a half months. Any one else seen ridiculous turn around times like this that would break previous records?

I have read reports where coins took 3 1/2 months before they got back to their owners. That's about the longest I've ever heard of. 2 months is not uncommon.

Back when PCGS and NGC first started wait times of 4 to 6 months were sometimes encountered. The all time record though was probably held by a submission to ANAAB. It took a little over a year. The reason was that because of low submissions they had problems keeping staff and since they accepted anything they got some tough material that required tracking down some obscure specialists. It wasn't too long after it was returned that ANAAB finally closed down. (For those that don't know ANAAB was an authentication service started up by the ANA after they sold off ANACS.)
