Yes, now that the wheels are turning, this is getting to be pretty good. Oh what tangled web we weave when we practise to deceive......We will be reading about this in CW soon I have been told
only because people are stupid enough to buy into it...its the same coin...its not worth any more...it didnt become a better more valuable example of the type because it was slabbed...if people are stupid enough to play into the game, then they get suckered and pay more for a coin because its in plastic. I mean we have already heard from the bottom feeder who snatches ancients away from collectors, gets them slabbed and then flips them for 20% more forcing people to pay more for their coins...in essence making the price of our coins go up....this has been demostrated already.
I don't think it's stupid to pay a premium. If the coin is slabbed by a reputable TPG, then there is a guarantee that the coin is genuine and hasn't been manipulated. When spending a lot of money for a coin, especially coins prone to counterfeiting, the peace of mind from certification is worth something. It's not the plastic, it's like buying insurance. You wouldn't call your homeowner's insurance just a piece of paper.
I see nothing wrong with that at all, he is forcing nothing on anybody. If he is slabbing and incurring costs, pass them on !!! Also, in my opinion as a novice, a slabbed ancient would be worth more to me knowing it was genuine and not retooled.
this is a false sense of security... The coin is the same coin slabbed or not...its worth exactly the same...the coin did not change when you slabbed it...you are now paying for a false sense of security for a slip of paper in a slab from a grading service manned by collectors no different than me and you...and certainly prone to make big mistakes (well known mistakes of the WORST kind), to give you a bit of peace of mind... I wouldnt mind it if it were just end collectors who wanted to slab the coin after the sell...its the scummy practice of hiking coin prices by buying them cheaper unslabbed, slabbing them, then selling them for 20-30% more just to eek a bit of extra cash out of a collectors pocket than irks me...it causes coin prices to go up for us collector who couldnt give a rats behind about a slab and dont want to pay for that slab now that the bottom feeder flipper raised the price for real collectors. Not to mention the fact that these people outbid real colelctors for these coins so they can win it and sell it for more...they are bottom feeders and these TPGs and people who buy into them give them the ability to do this.
He is hurting the industry as a whole, not just his customers. Somebody will buy from him , go to sell, and hate coin collecting forever because of this predator....
This thread is not about ligitimate coins and legitimate dealers buying raw and slabbing to profit, that is your opinion and your welcome to it. This thread is to show what a predator does to cheat. That ANACS slab would have protected and informed a collector what they were getting. Was the person who slabbed it a bottom feeder? Was the person who sold it as a problem coin and acuratly decribed a bottom feeder? I think not. The crackout artist is the bottom feeder. If I buy a BU roll of pre-40 red Lincolns, slab them at PCGS, and sell them for more than my cost, I'm a bottom feeder? I don't understand your hatred, but I do understand your dislike for slabs, you are joined by many, but I have never heard such contempt for the process......
I am not so sure it is the same coin in both auctions. See the attached pics of the reverse. Examine the circled talon.
Doug....Look at the parallel line on the F in 5, where the lower cross joins the upright Look at the " dot" below the D in FiveD Look at the dot inside the V of five..... Seated is a known retooler also, and coin painter, and retoner as well as a crackout artist
