When someone is describing slabbed what exactly do they mean? thank you...I am sure i'll have more odd ball questions in the future.
` They mean a coin that has been sent into a grading service and returned in a plastic case. I found a list of coin lingo at the following site: http://www.pcgs.com/lingo.chtml You might find it usefull too.
A "slabbed" coin is a coin in a third party grader's plastic holder with their opinion of the grade. Some people prefer buying coins that are slabbed to take the guesswork out of grading them; some prefer raw coins (term for coins that are not slabbed) and figuring out the grade themselves. I'm in the latter group usually, but when buying a higher value coin I do like the assurance of a professional opinion as to authenticity and grade. Others can elaborate on this I'm sure, but that's the basics.
I agree with that. I've been collecting for well over 60 years and find I seldom know what people are taling about so I go there. Always thought shomeone should make a coin and currency dictionary.
