Greetings CT Members, I'm looking to possibly get some tips and insight from everyone regarding slab photography as I believe it's a tricky subject. I do well with my imaging but not good enough. I guess you could say it's not up to my standards..lol. I just ordered what I believe to be the greatest photography book of all time, "Numismatic Photography" by Mark Goodman so hopefully that will help out a lot. In the meantime, I would appreciate any tips or suggestions from my fellow CT members. I will be posting my images along the way for everyone to view. Please feel free to post any Numismatic Photography link you know of. Merlin I need your assistance to as you are my Numismatic Photography mentor. Here's an example of my current slab photography, not the best but I try.
You're looking good. No glare. No "hot spots" (meaning your light is well diffused). Color seems accurate. Keep it up and after awhile you'll forget the slab is even there
Your images look pretty darn good if you ask me! i also bought the same book from mark. The information in the book is excellent. He also has some information here that you may find useful. It is covered in the book though. http://www.coinimaging.com/photography.html There isn't anything I can tell you that Mark doesn't cover.

Holy Cow! I think you nailed it! LOL. The light is diffused really well. You can see the difference in the 1879 full slab photo. That one is just a little to bright which washes out some of the detail. Even so, that is a good photo too! Real nice job Vam, slabs can be tough to photograph and you pulled it off nicely! The 1889Russia is just outstanding :thumb:
Your photos are nice. :thumb: You have gotten a nice image without all that nasty glare you can get from the slab plastic. I recently bought this Russia gold coin. Mine is raw so it was much more simple to snap the photo.
