Does anyone have the correct dimensions for this coin? I've found 2 widely differing measures: Austria - Silver 6 Kreuzer 1849A KM#2200 Weight 2.23 gm. Diameter 21 mm N/A and Weight 1.19 g N/A 0.0168 oz ASW Thank you
Austria - Silver 6 Kreuzer 1848A KM #2199 Weight 2.23 gm., .4280 silver, ASW .0306 oz These were struck only in 1848. KM #2200 1849A Weight 1.19 gm, .4380 silver, ASW .0168 oz These were struck 1849-52 and restruck 1859-70 with the same date.
Thank you! What was confusing me was the information from this offering at Vcoins: http://www.vcoins.com/world/monarchy/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=786&large=0 I guess the information describing the coin isn't from NGC (only the grade). How about the diameter? Is it 21mm and does it STAY at 21mm?
A couple of things are possible, could be a mistake in Krause, the source of my info - it does happen. Could be that seller read the wrong line in the book, one is directly above the other and the coins look identical except for the date. Both coins in Krause are the same size, 21mm. If it were me, I'd just send them an email and ask them to double check their info for it certainly does not match that listed in Krause. There is one other possibility, there was a revolution going on in Austria in 1848-49, so I suppose it is possible that a few coins could have been minted with the '49 date and the old specs. But that is only speculation on my part.
