Again i was looking through some pennies...what else is new... ...and i happend to come by a 1943 silver wheat penny...it is in tact and probably i would grade it MS...maybe 50...anyways i was wondering whats it worth....? Pete-
In 1943 due to copper being used for the war they made the pennies out of zinc coated steel. It's value is only a buck or less.
There is no mint-state-50 (MS-50) grade. Is it about-uncirculated-50 Here is a link to the Sheldon Grading Scale Sheldon Scale Charlie
Then please don't repeat it. It's one of those remarks which usually won't be deleted by the Moderators, but it really isn't in good taste on a forum frequented by youngsters. If that were true, we wouldn't get repeated postings about "silver penny" finds. Unless, like me, you're old enough to remember the '40s; or you've been collecting for a while, there's no reason you would know about them.
I'm pretty sure that there is a special grade for silver wheat pennies. A fine example of that particular coin would of course grade MS 50 or, if it were in extremely excellent condition could possbly grade as high as MS 10,500,003
I wouldn't have made that "everyone knows" comment, except that phrase horrifies me. My secretary even used it the other day. And she's a girl and everything. Go figure.
