It's the Saturday 7-3-2021 and I'm celebrating the Fourth of July early by posting my oldest Silver Coins . Please post yours . Thanks . US coins ONLY .
Oldest silver Hmmm I got a beautiful fake (silver) 1795 dollar but don't think that counts here lol hmmmm and US only so not my colonial silvers (french/spanish/mexican etc) Hmmmm (flipping through the oddies lol) well 1878 the best I can do for the moment.. trying to remember where my bent h10 got put lol..
US only, huh! Coins only, huh! In that case, I won't bother posting my 1822 silver medal from France even though the French were instrumental in helping the US gain their independence.
This would be my oldest US minted silver. I do have a Spanish Cobb that was found here on our soil and was likely used in commerce prior to the establishment of the colonies.
Depending upon what you define as "US Coins," here are two. Oak Tree Shilling circa 1660 to 1667, despite the date "1652." 1792 half disme, stuck July 1792 and delivered to Thomas Jefferson before he went to Monticello for his summer break from Philadelphia. If you don't think that the 1792 half disme was a regular issued, going by the research, this 1794 half dime was struck in February 1795 despite the date on the coin. The first delivery of half dimes of this type contained some 1795 dated coins which, according to the die state evidence, were made before the 1794 dated coins.
