I have a kinda cool story that I wanted to share with all of you about some silver quarters! :smile

So...I was working last Friday(I work in retail), and I was giving some guy his change...and right as I was about to hand it to him I noticed one of his quarters was a 1952. Now of course by this time I had to give it to him and couldn't set it aside to switch out on my next break with one of my newer, no-silver quarters, and I was kicking myself for not seeing it in the drawer earlier.

Fast forward to Sunday. I was working again and went to give another person their change...and noticed in the drawer a pretty old-looking quarter. Take a look at it...and it is a 1952!!!! What are the odds that I would find 2 1952s in circulation within 3 days?? There is no way it is the same one...that it could get from the guy's change to Brinks back to our store in 2 1/2 days. I have been looking for silver for a while and never found any before, let alone silver quarters. At least I got to stop kicking myself when I found the second one :smile

  3. My guess is that the pair was given to you (or your retail establishment) at the same time. I am glad to hear you got one of them. Congrats. TC

Congrats on the silver find, it's always fun, especially getting silver at face.

I work in retail. We occasionally find silver dimes, war nickels, wheat pennies galore and the odd Canadian silver pieces but very rarely a US quarter. I have found two in 10 years. The problem is at work half the store collects coins and it's most definitely finder keepers. One co-worker about two months ago opened a roll of pennies and out popped a 1875 Indian Head in AU condition. Now that was a good find.

I work in a jewelry supply store and customers occasionaly send silver in as scrap for the value to be applied to their account. Several months ago, someone send in a whole baggie of mercury dimes....I couldn't believe it! I bought half the bag and picked out the choicest ones. I now have some 70 mercs in really nice condition.

I'm gonna miss this place when I retire.:hail:

I think the OPs post and similar posts are reflections of the stress of the economy. Many people raided the piggy banks in order to make ends meet. I believe that many coins that sat for years are now reappearing in circulation. Nice find guys! :smile

    Wow that is awesome!

I do find a bunch of wheat pennies, in addition to a few buffalo nickels. I found this blank planchet(my avatar) there as well, and also an indian head cent.

Blank planchet? Wow, that's gotta be the best find ever!
Good for you! I was lucky enough to buy 4 silver quarters just a few weeks ago. Those vintage quarters look, and feel great. I started out buying Mercs but when I saw the quarters I had to have those as well!!

I'll bet it was the same quarter. It depends a lot on the type of retail but in a place like a gas station or fast food restaurant there are mostly repeat customers and they can carry the same coin back a few times. I used to mark a few coins and sometimes they'd just keep coming back like a bad penny.

Well the second one I found came in a roll, so I doubt it came back to us through that customer and then went to Brinks then came back to us rolled up...especially since we don't really empty the change in the drawers unless they overflow(and we never overflow in quarters)....so it had to be a completely different coin. It has to be just a super weird coincidence.
