If you knew a guy that had bought $20 worth of silver quarters (Pre-1964), and knew he nothing about coins, and you wanted to buy them, what would you offer? He paid face value for them. I'm thinking of offering $100. Some of the coins are in great condition. Probably nothing special in them, just random coins. Thanks BD
What should I look for in these coins. What if they have been cleaned. I have a hard time telling if they have been cleaned, (I know little about coins, but I am trying to learn) Whats the silver value in them??? THANKS!!! BD
The answer to your question was that in melt condition (poor) that a good dealer would give approx. 10X face some as much as 12X. From there it would take someone with more knowledge about the specific coins he has to determine if any are worth more (key dates & physical condition). Experienced members here debate condition/cleaned-or-not even with good photos. In hand most here would know if they were harshly cleaned and a much smaller group (excluding me) would be able to tell if they had been dipped by much-more experienced person. Take a look at ebay to help you judge what coins are selling for. And let your conscience be your guide!!! As the saying goes around here - Buy the book - then the coin. If you don't know what you are doing you had better limit your risk or be ready to make financial mistakes that you will have to live with. Good Luck
