So, I came across some silver proof sets in my closet that I had forgotten about, years 1999 - 2006. I began collecting them in 2004 as an investment, so no sentimental value exists here. I'm a little bummed out, it seems like the 1999 dropped severely in value. When I purchased these sets 8 or so years ago, I remember paying something like $350 for the 1999 set, and now it's only valued at just over $100? Anyone know what happened there? Demand just fell off the deep end? Anyway, I'll be selling these off simply because I am not interested anymore. As mentioned above I have the complete silver proof sets with the COA's and all are in good condition. I also have a hard plastic case that will hold the 1999 - 2008 sets. I'm thinking of going the E-Bay route or possibly doing a trade of sorts. At this point I think a fair value is $425 for everything. I would like some input on what others think of that estimate. Thanks, Tortoiseman
I think $425 shipped is a fair price. It would take some time to find better deals and assemble the same set for less. If you walked into a coin shop and paid retail for them, you'd probably be looking at $500-$550.
I think what Blaubart said is a good price as well. Several dealers near me have their silver proof sets, same years as yours, listed for $60 each, so that would work out to $480.
i just started to collect the silver proof sets this year and i am glad i waited until now to do it cause there would be no way for me to afford the 99 set if i had been interested in it back in 04, but i have to laugh at some of these people on ebay. they are still trying to sell their 99 silver proofs for 250 to 350 range and tell you their set is extremely rare. i'm collecting the silver proof sets not for just an investment. i don't think they will ever be worth that much. the only way i see them being worth any real value is if the price of silver goes way up but i decided to collect the proofs so i can put them in shadow boxes and hang them on the wall. i think they look good. if i have em show em off i say.
