Hello, It sounds like you paid too much. The coins came in two finishes, Proof, and Uncirculated. Either one can be purchased for between $20 and $30. The Uncirculated dollar was also issued in the Thomas Jefferson Coin & Currency Sets. These sets included a Matte Proof nickel and a $2 banknote. These sets can be purchased for less than $100.
Keep in mind that you never have to buy. There is almost always time for research and there will always be another coin.
