I own a vending machine company. We go through nickels fast. So I pick up at least $100 a week in nickels from the bank. All wrapped in clear plastic. You can look at them from the outside for the distinctive color of silver nickels. Not a fortune, but we find 2-3 war nickels out of every 100 dollars. 10 years ago, we used to find a lot of silver quarters and dimes, but lately, it is rare. Best of luck to everyone!!
Also, kind of on the subject, I hit 3 or 4 pawn shops on a weekly basis for 90% silver. The newest pawn shop I visit in South Bend, In, they had 25 ASE's tossed in with the 90% junk coins. Paid 14.55 per ASE along with about 25.00 in halves. Kind of felt guilty, but I got over it...
Those are the best kinds of investments and collection additions, where you've already made money just by buying! Nicely done.
Few people realize how good a find war nickels are. Fun fact: war nickels have more silver content per face value than any other U.S. coin ever minted. Yes, even ASEs.
