Silver lining

    Can someone tell me what's going on here? The penny is a 2001 D with a silver edge all the way around and some showing through a few spots of ware. I did research and it is probably the zinc showing through but why? It doesn't appear anyone dipped it as I've read sometimes happens.

    As you can see the edges don't show silver through, assuming its just the zinc showing through but I was also hoping a possible incorrect planchet? It is the one on the left of the side view, it is slightly thicker than a comparison penny but the diameter is the same.

    I don't have a scale yet (it's in the mail :))

    Thank you...loving looking for these oddities.

    Looks intentionally damaged. No known Mint Error that I know of.

    Some Cent planchets are rolled thin and some thick. It is normal.
