I was reading the red book and I know pre 64 coins are 90% silver, and .50 cent from 65 to 70 are 40%. The question I have is it also lists the kennedy bicentennial as having .800 silver and the bicentennial quarter .800 silver. The other books i have read say that the 76 quarter and kennedy half are worth face, so witch one is right?

There were some bicentennial Kennedys made for collectors that had 40% silver. They were made in both burnished (AKA business strike) and proof. The easiest way to differentiate is to look at the rim of the coin.

Don't forget that some of the Ike dollars were 40% silver also.

The bi-centennial silver coins are 40% silver overall, but have an 80% layer on the surface.

That is the case for any 40% silver US coin.
