I recenly saw a silver eagle planchet, blank, but it had been up ended, but was not stamped in coin press. Planchet was graded by ICG. Neve seen or heard of this eror in he marketplace for ASE, has anyone else seen these planchets and were they expensive?
I've seen maybe 1 or 2, and only on the internet. They are very rare to find and in both cases I've seen they have sold for $$$. Speedy
Haven't seen one myself, actually haven't heard of one till you posted about it, lol. They sound pretty neat. Wonder though how they got pass the mint employees? Phoenix
seeing as how the mint is more eyes on the ases it would figure, errors like that would be exceptionally rare.
I am told if the mint catches the problem/error with its distribution network(dealers)they are forced to return them(planchets) or else. Supposedly, 400 got out and past the reaches of last resort(mint) and was purchased by one of the big companies.
If 400 got out and if they all hit the market, that will drive the price down quite a bit. Maybe I'll be able to buy one yet!! Speedy
