I've started collecting coins now I want to focus on silver proof sets and silver eagles I want to start my collection with 2013 silver eagle I want to collect certified eagles I have a small budget what coin should I get thinking bout the 2013 W burnished in MS69 can't decide if I want to start a MS69 or MS70 collection I don't know if my budget will allow for MS70. thoughts
Ponderosa, Just a question, but why are you starting with collecting at that level? MS 70 items will really limit much of an opportunity at any quantity, especially with a limited budget... Silver Eagles are Great!! But starting at the pinnacle, you may be missing the hill... Just my $0.02 :angelic2: Bill (of course, photos to drool over are always welcome!!, and not to sound like a grammar nazi, but spaces and periods make posts easier to read... :devil
Why not put together a set of un-slabbed Silver Eagles? You avoid the premiums of MS69 or MS70 coins. MS 67/68 are still uncirculated and pretty much untouched unless viewed under a magnifying glass. Buying MS70 coins is making the seller who had them slabbed rich. If it makes you happy too, knock yourself out. For my money, I'd buy a set of raw ASEs and put them in a DANSCO album. They're a bullion coin. Get 'em as close to spot as you can. That's my philosophy anyways.
On a budget ms70 or PF70 coins bring a higher premium. Im collecting MS 69 eagles. They are much cheaper anyway. Get a book and collect the bullion. That alone will set you back almost $700
If you can't tell the difference between a 69 & 70, then go with the 69. It will save you considerable money. The burnished SAE's began with the 2006-W, but they skipped a couple of years. So, it shouldn't be too hard to complete the set. Chris
Yea I don't currently own any silver eagles. I just haven't decided if I want to do dansco book or start trying to get a W burnished set of eagles.
I've decided to start collecting the W burnished eagles I'm gonna put together a MS69 NGC Early Releases set!! 2006,2007,2008,2011,2012,2013!!!!
Just be aware that there are slabs with the W in parenthesis that are not the burnished finish coins, they are regular bullion coins. Also you will be paying a premium for the early release designation which has absolutely no bearing on the quality of the coin. Some feel that the early release designation is a labeling fad that in the end may not stand the test of time and my not hold their value.
Do you realize that you are missing a coin from that set? If you want a complete silver eagle W subset you will need to also purchase the 2008 W reverse 07 which will set you back about $450. You should be able to complete the set for about $870. Best of Luck
The "Early Releases" and/or "First Release" attribution are nothing but a gimmick and waste of money. Don't blame this on the grading services because they DO have to make money for their company. Requests for such attributions originated with large institutional sellers (including the TV hucksters) whose only motive was (and is) to reap excess profit bearing no relationship to the rarity or scarcity of a coin. Chris
I went with collecting them raw. It didn't cost a great deal at that time. It makes a great looking set. Hard to top the Walking Liberty design.
Thanks for the advice yea ive seen those. I'm gonna do my research and shop for best deal on these coins. I may not get all the years in early releases just gonna find best deal. I just mainly want each year in MS69. Just purchased the 2013 W burnished silver eagle MS69 Early Releases Bald Eagle label for $69 with free shipping. Best price I found good deal?
$69 is about average. I've seen them go for anywhere from $42 - $85 with free shipping. $70 a piece is what they should cost you on average. They aren't rare but non early releases go for $8-10 dollars less than you paid. Good luck finding the Key 2008 with 2007 reverse .. like I said before that's a good $400 coin in MS69. This is a deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-w-Struck-at-West-Point-Mint-Silver-Eagle-NGC-MS69-Early-Releases-Blue-/400502341611?pt=US_Bullion_Coins&hash=item5d3fccbfeb http://www.paradisemint.com/2013-W-...-MS69--Early-Releases--Blue-Label_p_3528.html
