I hate to be the one to tell you this, but if these pics, obverse & reverse, are of the same coin - it's not worth anything. For I'm afraid that is an altered coin
How is it altered? When I look at it in my hand the color is consistant with the Obverse color on both sides, one side is not darker like it shows in the pics. I would appreciate some more info?
Well take a look at the mint mark - the Denver mint didn't even exist in 1885. And besides that - they put the mint mark on the coin backwards
Looking at it under magnifying glass mint mark is an O, I believe that means New Orleans, I am from Canada so I can not be positive on American Mint Marks. Does this help at all?
I thought it was O myself - until I did this by accident while trying to orient the coin correctly so I could post your pics for you. Now I know my eyes aren't what they used to be, but the left hand edge of that mint mark looks like a straight up & down line, as in D, instead of a curved one in O. But you have the coin in hand - while all I have is a pic. You can see it much better than me. So perhaps it is an O
Well....yep...it sure does look like a D... webcat5 Can you get anouther photo of the coin looking right down on the Mint Mark?? Speedy
Could be pushed metal from mechanical or ejection doubling, or some other damage causing the straight edge. I think it looks more O-ish than D-ish to me, even with the straight edge. Need a better photo to be sure. Interesting procedure, reversing the image to get a different perspective....
I will try to get another Pic of the Mint Mark But I do not have a scanner. Maybe I can take my existing Pic and just get the mint mark enlarged? I do not know what that would do to the quality of the Picture but either way It can not be done until Monday.
I know I said Monday, but the person who is doing my picture can not get it done until tomorrow morning. Please stick in there with me and I will get that close up of the Mint Mark soon. Thanks.
