According to their FB page, they have a limited stock of 3,500 left. So if you missed out, they're back up, both unc and proof.
Yeah, I was out 'Paul Revered' by you my friend. I just started a thread on the same subject. Perhaps the Mods could merge mine into this one?
The U.S. Mint sucks at communicating these kind of things. No emails about this happening [emoji35] I won't be able to order until I get home from work. By then I'm sure the coins will be sold out again
If you can post a comment here, can't you at least make time for a phone call and order from the Mint?
The problem is the card I use for this is at home. If we had been given a heads up then I would have been prepared
My card is stored in my online Mint account. Never have to go look for it to place an order. I also tend to memorize the numbers of certain cards just in case.
I'm tempted, but it looks like they're already occasionally selling below issue price on eBay. I guess I'll pass.
I still think of them as an unattractive gimmick -- just one that seems to have quite a lot of traction in the secondary market. I like the idea of getting one as a pocket piece, but I'd rather start with one that's already impaired, and if I do that, I ought to be able to get it at a discount from the Mint's rates.
There may be a limit to how much profit can be turned on these by how many sellers there are offering them and it could just be holiday shoppers buying in the last week+, or because the coins were not available on the Mint site until today (12/16), but it has not been my experience that the prices were selling below issue price on eBay for clads or silver HoF coins in OGP. I'm not sure what level of profit you are looking for but there have been a couple of BiN sales of the halves go for $54 for a clad Unc/PR set and silver dollars for $69.95/coin, in the days prior to resumption of sales on the Mint site. Those are not huge premiums but more than the Mint after fees and shipping.
And if they are poor quality or one's that have been picked over, I hope folks buying now return them to the Mint and not pass them on to collectors. Returns to the Mint facilitates them taking a loss and hopefully looking for ways to avoid it by not sending out impaired products or a quality not up to the standards of their customer base.
Maybe they were cleaning out the vault and found them in the back. I'm sure the tv coin shows could have them graded as GSA dollars and get good bucks for them. Although remembering how long it took to get mine from the mint maybe these ones just arrived and are now ready for shipment.
I read elsewhere these coins are ones that had payment issues with whoever ordered them previously - they aren't poor quality returns...
Ordered 1 Proof this AM and received notice it shipped today plus they shipped it USPS Priority Mail now that's an improvement. My last order "American $ Coin and Currency set" shipped FedEx Smart Post to my PO Box and took over 7 days to arrive.
Got an email also that my proof & uncirculated shipped today. Now I have to wait to see if my Currency set order will be filled. Even though I ordered before others & they've had their orders shipped [emoji36]
I got an email from the Mint yesterday (12/16), after the NA C&C sets went back on sale, and I placed an order for some sets (12/14), that even though an order is confirmed, it is not guaranteed until you receive a shipping address. I guess this was in response to swift sales of the remaining 3,500 estimated sets. My order remains back ordered. Yesterday morning, I placed another order for the silver HoF dollars. Those have already shipped via UPS, due for delivery on 12/19. Either of these items will go straight back if they appear to be something already handled/cherry-picked. Otherwise, hold them and see what happens once the products are removed from the Mint catalog.
