The Cutty Sark Silver Proof Coin is available now and continues the storied tale of the Cutty Sark which dates back over a century. Cutty Sark Silver Proof Coin Cutty Sark Silver Proof Coin Built in 1869, the clipper ship would start off in service to the tea trade. As part of that commercial venture, competitions were held seeking the fastest transit times from China to London. The most famous of these races saw the Cutty Sark pitted against the Thermopylae in 1872.
I enjoy some of the designs coming from Perth such as this one but it seems that just about any silver proof coin coming out of the Perth Mint is selling for over $100 for just 1 oz. I'm sorry but no way I'm paying that much when silver is currently at $27-$28 an ounce.
I would admit that the Perth Mints silver is a little pricie. Generally they have decent resale value, although I wouldn't view it as a long term investment. Here is the thing. If you like a design, it might be worth it, silver price be damned. If you want bullion, your better off with Koalas in whole quantities.
I would consider their coins a little more than pricey. The thing is I've bought coins that were minted at Perth before and never had to pay such high prices. I understand silver prices have gone up over the last few years but the mark up they're asking for is exorbitant. Until their prices come down to a more reasonable level I'm going to have to skip these coins.
Many coins coming from the Perth Mint is really pretty and it seems there is a huge secondary market. I tried to get into some of them because I like the designs. But when the price is so high it can quickly get out of hand.
Yeah I think it is an artifical market, but for the time being at least, it seems that if you miss the coin at the Perth, and it is hot, your not going to get it at a reasonable price for a while, maybe a long while. Ruben
