I found this little guy at the coin store today. There was no identification of the particular ruler but it was certainly from the era of Xerxes and Darius & sons who eventually fell to Alexander. It has multiple banker's test marks (chopmarks) and although it is quite worn, you can clearly make out the king with his spiky crown. The reverse is an early crude incuse punchmark. This is not my oldest coin but it definitely made page #1 in the old album.:smile I also picked up a Palestine 1927 2 mils coin and a P and D of the new Washington dollar.
Mikjo0, that's a fine siglos. like the banker's marks -- adds to the history of the coin, makes you wonder how many hands it passed through. two questions for you. first, what coin shop(s) do you visit? i'm in DC, not far from you, and would love to know of a reputable shop in the area. second, what brand of holder do you use? i've always admired the presentation of your coins. V.
Thanks Vercingetorix, The Coin shop is Century coins in Springfield.Just hop on the Beltway to 95 South, get in the right lane and exit on Commerce street, then immediately turn left into the parking lot.Easy. The holders are H.E Harris deluxe 2X2's for U.S. coins, available on their website and at this particular store.6 for $4.99.The green one in the above pic is for dimes. By the way,if you ever decide to change your avatar, check this out!
thanks! i'll have to schedule a little jaunt down 95 to check this place out. and thanks for the tip about the harris holders. they look quite nice, and i'm not sure that i'm the biggest fan of flips. i have some E&T kointainer non-pvcs, but they're fairly brittle and don't make for an attractive display. nice avatar pic! i may just have to switch. how did you find it?
