I get married next week and will be doing a $2500 purchase of silver as soon as I get back from the honeymoon the following week. I am going to make this simple, I am looking for help in picking out some nice bullion that is not too much over spot. The contest consists of suggestions posted in this topic with bullion types and costs that will get me to my $2500 limit. I am looking for some generic, some better know bullion. I am not looking for anything less then .999 bullion.

The person who comes up with the best selection for me to purchase will win a 1 oz ASE for helping me out. I need all people who are participating to make sure you give as much details as possible when it comes to the selections, also please state you want to be apart of the contest. I will announce the winner on Friday August 9th and contact that person via private message to get details on where to mail the bullion too.

Don't forget to tell me where to get the bullion you suggest and the cost, and remember I am trying to get the most bang for my buck as a overall purchase. Thanks, SCFY

Here's my suggestion (I'd like to be part of the contest), Provident Metals has three different 1 oz generic rounds for .89 over spot in ANY quantity! Here is a link to Provident Metals website, and below are the images of the 3 rounds for .89 pot: http://www.providentmetals.com/bullion/silver/private-slv/1-ozt-rd.html

They also have a couple more 1 oz rounds and a 1 oz bar for .99 over spot:

If you want to spend a little more but get a cool looking round, they have these for 1.99-2.99 over spot:

Provident also has pretty reasonable shipping, here is a breakdown of their rates:

    Order Sub-TotalShipping Rate
    $0-$99.99 $5.95
    $100-$499.99 $8.95
    $500-$1,999.99 $11.95
    $2,000-$4,999.99 $16.95
    $5,000 + $24.95

I was going to post much the same as tinpot already did, so I suppose there's no need to duplicate any of that. But if you're looking for specific examples, I believe a mix of generic and government issued bullion, and then throw in a bar, would be a good please to start.

    Using Providents prices now,

    Tube of ASE's $466
    Tube of Canadian Maples $450
    Tube of generic bullalo's $416
Tube of the OPM rounds $416
Three 10 oz bars at $207 each (these are .79 over spot - OPM, 2013 Year of the Snake, NTR)
Ten 1/2 oz fractional Incuse $114 (always cool to have fractionals, and these little guys are real neat)

If my totals are correct, that puts you at $2483, plus the $16.95 shipping, you a nickel under your limit. :) I was going to leave some money for the winner's ASE, but I'll assume you already have that. In all honesty, if it were me, I'd be throwing in some gold and 90% junk to that, but I think the list above is a pretty solid mix for just .999 silver.

Congrats on the wedding and enjoy the honeymoon (and the new bullion). Oh, and yes, I'd like to be part of this contest.

Here's some additional links to the products I mentioned. tinpot already gave a link to the generic rounds

Sure, I want to be part of the contest (and voted in the poll).

I would recommend getting some of the America The Beautiful 5 oz 0.999 pieces. They don't seem to command much of a premium over spot (at least, for something of their possible numismatic appreciation) and are being shunned like a red headed step child right now.

When buying large amounts, I've found that searching for particularly unloved items by name on eBay pays off. And the "sort by price, highest first" + "auction only" helps sort out the large lot auctions. There are several 10, 15, 20, & 25 lot auctions going on right now that look to be running about $25 / oz (inclusive of shipping).

I would also suggest diversifying with several different national 1 oz rounds (ie; some Philharmonics, some Kookaburras, some Maple Leaves, and some Pandas). They tend to command a higher premium over spot than ASE's if purchased at a local coin store, but the opposite seems to be true online (at least on the secondary market). They seem to be running about $21 / oz in bulk lots.

If I had $2500 to drop on 0.999 silver, I'd get the following:
    10 x Pandas
    10 x Maple Leaf's
    10 x Philharmonics
    10 x Kookaburras
    13 x ATB 5oz rounds

If you can find some lots with half or quarter ounce rounds, those are handy too.

Alternately, I would contact Odyssey Marine Exploration and find out who's handling the disposition of the silver bars from their recent shipwreck recovery. It would be idiotic if they melted those down when there is almost certainly a collectors market that would pay above spot for them:
    http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/08/130802-shipwreck-silver-ocean-treasure-cargo-ship/

They're not selling any of the bars yet, but you can sign up for a mailing list of info:

I agree that buying circulated coin silver is a great way to buy precious metal, but I think the OP specified 99.9% silver only.

When it comes to storage/security/transport costs, that little bit of extra mass does add up pretty significantly. Also, the larger silver coins tend to lose less mass than the smaller ones for the same amount of wear. So, if you're buying based on face value rather than actual weight, I would focus on the half dollars and dollars.

Wait, what am I doing? Yes; what a great idea. Everyone (else) should include some silver Rosies in their suggestion!

Already mentioned above, so, don't need to count me in on contest. However, I placed my first order with Provident Metals giving these Golden State Mint Buffalo rounds a try at 89cents over spot:

These will be my first private minted bullion. While Provident has a few other rounds at 89 cents over spot, I chose these cause they look pretty good in this YouTube clip

I don't think I've seen any .999 fine silver bullion for less than 89cents/ozt premium.

Ok I'm in. Here is my idea for best bang for your buck. Nothing fancy but the most silver for the money.
100 oz NTR Metals .999 Fine Silver Bar 1
    $2,063.00 $2,063.00 Remove item
    [IMG]
10 oz Silver Bars | .999 Fine NTR Bullion 2
    $207.30 $414.60 Remove item
    [IMG]
1/4 oz .999 Fine Silver Rounds | Incuse Indian Design 1

    $6.18 $6.18

    Grand Total $2,483.78 for 120 .25 oz.

But me personaly I would not get the 100oz bar and just get 12 Ten oz. bars because more options to sell and you wont have to unload the whole 100 oz. at one time. Provident has 3 different 10 oz bars to choose from for the same price. Shipping is 16.95 that would take you a cpl bucks over let the spot drop 3 or 4 cent that will put at 2500.

10 oz Silver Bars | .999 Fine NTR Bullion 12

    $207.30 each

    $2,487.60 total for 120 oz

Okay, well I am going to start off a bit different. I always believe in diversifying a bit so let's add some numismatic value as well. I think grabbing the Canadian Wildlife series would be a good idea. Using Provident's prices it would come to around 236 for the 6 1 oz. rounds (so not the new 1.5 oz. Polar Bear). Even though it is about double the price of what you would pay for other silver rounds, I think the fact that there is some good numismatic value there as well is a good way to protect your self a little.

Next let's add some generic rounds. I like the classic coin designs like the capped bust, Mercury dime, or incuse Indian head design which go for 21.93 each. I would go with some combination of those up to 50 rounds for a total of $1097.

Using the remaining cash, grab Provident's off quality ASEs at 2.49 above spot which would allow you to grab 51 one of these coins. Getting the off quality ones get you the best bang for your buck, saving you about $.70 per round as opposed to 2013 coins.

And yes, I would love to be a part of the contest!

If I did my math right, each of those ingots should have about $2500 of silver in them. The questions are 1) if they're a uniform sizes & 2) how much of a premium over melt with Odyssey get for them.

Like I said, I sincerely hope that they don't melt them down without making some attempt to sell them as shipwreck salvage.

I see Provident metals seems to be the main choice for purchase. There is a great selection so far for me to choose a winner. Keep the suggestions coming folks.

I'm not interested in winning your prize but I'll offer my opinion in any case.
Silver right now is a losing bet. You would be much better off shorting slv with the money and perhaps buying some calls just for a bit of insurance. But since I know that isn't what your going to do I'll answer your question.
Buying whats popular now is never going to get you anywhere in my opinion. All of these low premium bars, silver eagles, generic rounds, maple leafs, perth mint bullion are all what people flock to and in general when it comes to investing you don't want to follow the herd mentality.
I would recommend buying "off the radar" stuff.
-Silver Canadian Mint Sets(1958-1967) are undervalued in my opinion and can be had near.
    - Mexican Onzas
-Yugoslavian and Korean gold and silver olympic coins such as
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yugoslavia-...62524?pt=US_Bullion_Coins&hash=item19df9b0b3c

But going back to my original post, keep your cash for the time being. Both the stock market and precious metals are overvalued at the present. Great opportunities are sure to follow
