Silver 25¢s

I have twenty five 1964 quarters. Seven Ds and eighteen Ps ( no MM).All circulated.

I'd grade them all at no more than G8. The rims meet the top of the Liberty and the bottom of the dates. Hairlines around the ears are barely visible. A few show some eagle breast feathers but just barely.

If my math is correct, using Coinflation.com I have 4.5 ounces of pure silver. 0.18 oz X $2.36 = $59.00 melt value.

I know no dealer is going to hand me $59 for the coins.

First, would a dealer be interested in the twenty five pieces?

Second, in G8 would he most likely consider them bullion only?

Lastly what would be a ballpark value that's fair to the dealer and to me?

My aim is to pick up one or possibly two uncirculated ASEs.

eBay and Amazon show some uncirculated Eagles for $20 - $22 + shipping. Do you think a dealer would make a swap for one ASE? How about two?

I think you would probably get around a buck a piece for the coins, maybe a little more. It depends on the dealer of course but I think you would be able to swap the coins for a ASE, not two though.

You have to shop arround. What raider34 is correct probably correct a buck or maybe a buck and half a piece. You would probably get one ASE.

Welcome to the forum Soylent. I agree with a dollar to a dollar and a half per coin. I would go for more then a silver eagle. Maybe and eagle and $10 or $15 cash or something. Just my opinion

25 silver quarters would fetch at least $60 these days on ebay. Definately worth at least two SAE. Frankly, if I was looking to unload 25 silver quarters I wouldn't take less than three SAE for them in trade. Trade with a private investor and not a dealer. Dealers have to make their profit.

Thanks Gopher. Each 25¢ is worth over two bucks melt. One Eagle for twenty five silvers seems a high price. Granted low grade 25¢s for a beautiful government struck Eagle makes me think I'd have to sweeten the pot but not straight up twenty five for the ASE.

Since you put your post on "what's it worth" rather than the "open forum" you negate the possibility of some one in Coin Talk giving you a better offer. Also I see you won't accept private messages. I'm puzzled as to why. It really limits exchanging info, but that's your decision to make.

To simply get an idea. I'm in no hurry. I have a full set of proof ASEs and an uncirculated Eagle can be carried in an airtight for the WOW factor. No PMs is my personal decision.

Check your neighborhood for large bullion dealers for the best price.

Save the silver quarters and buy the eagles with cash.

I agree. Unless you need the money bad, I say hold onto them. Silver's on the rise.

You should have no problem getting over $2 per coin x 25 coins = $50++

You should have no problem buying 2 silver eagles with that cash.

Almost any dealer I know would jump at this deal.

    I totally agree.

someone mentioned a buck a quarter? I would be insulted if a dealer offered me that. Melt value is $2.40 via http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html, maybe take a tad off for wear, but offering 40% of melt is a ripoff, even from a dealer who needs to make a profit.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I opted to buy an Eagle that suits my needs. The silver 25¢s will stay put for now.

Probably a wise decision. Silver is poised to go higher.
