    SICULO PUNIC Sicily
    300-289 B.C.
    AR Tetradrachm
    16.72 grams, 23 mm
Obv: Head of Hercules in lion skin
Rev: Horse head with date palm tree behind & MHSBM in exergue
    Grade: ???

Here is the last (and obviously the best) of my four coins from the Westchester coin show. Perhaps at one time this coin was paid to a mercenary that fought for Carthage. Of course, that Carthaginian mercenary is gone now.

I like the Rhodes Drachm better even with this coin being so much larger.

Do any of the experts at CT know?

It would be nice to know what is written in exergue.

    Ardatirion Où est mon poisson

This is actually an issue of Entella in Sicily, while the city was under Punic control. I don't know what it means (presumably just the name of the city) but the letters under are MHSBM.

wow! At the show I could only see the M's!
IMHO the coin is the" best coin"! Having seen it in person, and as a Punic collector, was a great experience for me. I have never seen one "live" and however amped the coin appears in this post - fails to show that it is waaaaaaayy more amped in hand.

This immediately cought my eye - phat in everyway. I don't think the seller or collect89 really appreciated the level of saliva that was deposited on the case and surrounding coins. I also reminded collect89 that if he bought that I would have to break his legs. (And he's a big dude), and that if he posted it Windchild might hurt himself.

I personally could not own it, I would probably play with it into a lower grade.
Trying to look somewhat educated in ancientcoins it was hard not to walk up to that coin and say something to the effect of, "duuuuuuuuuurrrrr!, That's phat!"

    I hope that Windchild's head didn't explode.

You & Windchild may not be old enough to know Mr. Ed but you certainly know your Carthage/Punic stuff. Thanks for the kind comments.
