I've found similar coins over the interweb with different dates but the obverse says G XX on them, this one is a single G X. SCWC 1601-1700 is of course blank on it since it's not a German or Austrian coin from the period :goof:

What the devil am I looking at?

  3. Here is a Wikipedia entry on the man on the coin, but I don't know enough about coins of that era to tell if it is from his home of Spain, or from one of the other places he ruled.

HIS on the Obverse stands for Hispania (possibly spelled wrong), or Spain...

Thanks for the linky, the SIC on the reverse is what led me to look at the coins in the rest of the Spanish Empire, and any similar coins I've found are all listed as Naples and Sicily. Could not find anything listed for Spain itself as close.
