Just picked up a new Seated Liberty dime for the type set. I really like the look of this one, with the lustrous, mostly white center with nice peripheral toning...
Nice seated dime there ziggy, you have good taste in coins, i'm still drooling over the 3 cent piece. Yeah well, I purchased something today too... a 4 coin history of the U.S. presidents, exluding the fact that there are actually 7 coins in the set, it came from... Readers digest, got it today from a yard sale for a buck, some nice toning on a couple of them, I think there is an error on one of the coins, or maybe it just looks odd to me, they all have the dates on them, when the president was born, and when he died, now on the w. henry harrison, it says 1841 - Died ....Isn't "died" something weird to have on a commemorative coin?
Thanks, all. There's a little scratch at about 7:30 I wasn't sure about on the obverse, but I have a feeling this picture makes it look more serious than it is (besides, I have 10 days to return it if it's worse). This is the first Seated coin in my AU-58 type set. Most of what I've seen so far has either been "original" dark, dull gray stuff of coins that have been dipped halfway to Hades and back. I like that this one looks original, yet still lustrous and with some nice tarni...err, *toning* on the periphery.
Another nice coin ziggy !! And don't worry about the guy still stuck in the black & white world There's tarnish - and then there's tarnish !! And this one is
Hey ziggy, if you collect barber coinage, start up a thread and post some pics of them, or just post them here, I'd like to see some from your collection, from what I have seen so far you know how to pick them.
Well, Susan, I know the way to your heart, and I know nothing says "I'm jealous" like a nice Bust Half. I only collect them in context of my type set, and I do have one Barber coin, an 1892 quarter, which I may want to upgrade at some point but I got a nice deal on it so I couldn't pass. It's nice enough and solid for the grade, but perhaps a little dipped out and has a good hit on the cheek. If I can find a nice one in the future, I'll upgrade it -- but my focus for now is on the type coins I don't have. Actually, if you look at my profile, you'll see the web link I provided takes you to my type set.
