I've owned it since 9/13. Not sure if it's turned in the holder, or I was blind folded when I bought it or I lost a bet w/John McIntosh.

    I don't drink, so that's not it.

    What do you think?

I think it's better than '60' but I wouldn't crack it out and resubmit it.

I like it. Wanna trade for this one?

This was given away free in a promotion by PCGS a few years ago. Yes, the marks are on the coin, not the holder. Actually I can't trade this one. I sold it on eBay for a whopping $5.00.

I take it you don't like the toning on this one. :meh: some will pay a premium for a toned coin that appeals to them. (taste varies) I like the coin, even though I'm not a fan of this color toning. I like the thread topic, and hope to see more of them.

That is not what I was expecting at all given the thread title. Not the most desired toning color, but there are far uglier coins in 60 holders than that one

To me ugly is ugly; not uglier or ugliest...just plain ugly.

Better questions than what do you think.
    1. Did the coin turned ugly in app 3-4 years?
    2. If not how did it get so dark/black esp around the date?
    3. Sure the Rev is better than the obv but we know in most cases obv sells or determine it's grade. Can the obv be improved?

I thought all MS60s were ugly. That's why they are not MS63s. :)

Maybe, maybe not. You could crack it and soak in a bit of acetone, but I don't think that would get rid of the black. A soak in some xylene might get rid of some of the black, but the problem is, you don't know what's under the black. Are ya feelin' lucky?

Here another ugly coin from AT, but it's in a pcgs holder at AU58

I think I know why I bought it. It was during a period when barber coins were so popular, bought & sold quite frequently, & prices skyrocketed & I joined the crowd.

I lucked out & sold the big 3 quarters & a very tough half, and others just prior to the coin mkt correction.

This one is at the point where my terminology changes from toned, to tarnished. IMO, that's an ugly coin due to that.:vomit:

Maybe, the fields are so washed out as it was pictured with the ultra bight method that it may just have "character" with a normal appearance. It certainly doesn't appear to be a colorful toning or anything, but I would bet it looks better than that method has made it appear

I can't recall ever seeing an MS60 that excited me.

Quite right, because most of them are downright, danged, ugly coins. An '58 would appear better.

In the early to mid 80s there were many great looking MS60 coins in original holders. However w/grade inflation fewer & fewer of them are left.
I may have a few in the SDB since I'm a die hard fan of rattlers. But I can be bought for the right offer.
My 01-S quarter was housed in an older NGC holder. TRE was able to get it in a new pcgs holder w/an upgrade.

That 84-O is a perfect candidate for an upgrade.

Plus it's far from being ugly imho.

I'd keep it in tack since it's in an older anacs holder that some will pay a premium for.

Nah, too 'baggy'. The toning helps a bit, but not to much to these old eyes......

You'd be surprised at how baggy 61 & 62 coins are especially cc Morgan $$s

I'll look some up & post them in another thread.
