A few weeks ago, I started a thread about an idea to get some young people started in this great hobby. The idea was to provide my great nephew with enough wheat cents and some general information about this amazing coin for him to do a show and tell for his class. At the end of the show and tell he was able to tell his classmates they can keep the coins. Well, I'm pleased to report the show and tell was a success and the kids were very excited to get the coins. Don't know if this will generate any new collectors or not, but it did plant the seed. I just wanted to let you know the results and suggest you consider some type of similar event for some kids in your area. Ya just never know!!!!!
Here's the medal by Victor D. Brenner that got the Lincoln Cent started. The Lincoln Cent was another of Theodore Roosevelt's ideas for coin designs.
If you have a Whitman’s folder and a lot of Wheat Cents, the forties and fifties are very plentiful to plug a hole. Just an idea.
@Collecting Nut if your comment was for me, I'm now working on my second full set of wheat cents and have several extras. I provided my great nephew with 25 1957D cents to hand out to his class!!
