2013 United States Mint Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set

I can clear see some kind of dirt on the top of the silver eagle sealed inside the plastic package. How will it affect the long term storage of this silver coin?
It seems I may need to pay the shipping to send this "defective" one back. Is it worth the trouble? Thanks.

2013? How long ago did you order it? Assuming that you want a replacement, have you spoken to the Mint to learn if you can still return it and if replacements are still available?

If you have to pay to ship it back you can usually get that shipping refunded by the mint.

 

You have 7 days after purchasing to return or replace the item.

 

Yeah, send it back. For the amount of money that the mint charges for these sets they should be perfect.

It doesn't mean they'll send another one without a problem.

I had to return to them TWO 2011 proof sets in a row. The first one had LOOSE COINS. I returned it. The one they replaced it with: Two halves of the case weren't glued together! I mean, NO glue. With the coins bangin' around in there, and when I took it out of the slipcover, it disintegrated in my hand, of course.

The third one was okay...(grrr).

 

Send it back. If it bothers you know, that feeling will only get worse if you keep it. TC

 

I ordered my Uncirculated Dollar Set and my Silver Eagle has a nick on the obverse and there are milk spots where the coin touches the plastic. It's beyond my time frame to return. I bought it while they offered free shipping. Not happy, but will just add it to my other Uncirculated Dollar sets....

I recommend ordering another one first and waiting to compare both before sending one back. This way, you are reducing your chances of having yours shipped right back out to you. This suggestion/advice came right from a US Mint's customer service rep. I have been doing it for years and it has worked well. The only thing you are out is the $5 shipping to you and the $5 shipping back to them. If $10 is worth your piece of mind then I would do it. Otherwise, you are just taking your chances that you may get your original set back.

 

Like I said,if you ask you can usually get your return shipping reimbursed.

Proof set holders have not been sealed shut since 1999. And even before then they used sonic welding not glue.

 

I'd crack it open, remove that dirt and put the eagle in airtite, and sell the small dollars, who needs those?
