Should I send it?

Hello all...... I am new to the forum, and new to the serious hobby of collecting coins. I have a rather nice 1963 proof cameo franklin, and was wondering if you all thought it would be worth sending to PCGS for grading. The images are large, beware modem users. I have also included a picture of a 2004 circulated dime. I am not sure if it is really anything special, but with all the vanishing numbers the mint has been producing, I figured I would just add this one to the collection.
    Thanks, Chris K

    nah

If I were you I'd just enjoy it and not worry is its a PF65 or 69---Also I wouldn't pay $20.00 to grade that, because you might not get $20.00 out of it.

Howdy Wankler - Welcome to the Forum !!

Based on the pics you provided it is pretty hard to tell if the coin is cameo or not. It does appear to have some frost - but cameo is hard to capture in a picture sometimes. You might have better luck with a scanner as they usually show cameo better when you can't quite capture it with a camera.

But you can be the judge with the coin in your hand. If the coin appears to have a black and white contrast when tilted in the light just so - it is cameo. The frost needs to be full and even over all the coin's devices on both obverse and reverse. The frost cannot have any breaks or shiny spots to get the Cameo designation. And to get the Deep Cameo it needs to be just about perfect. The mirrors or fields of the coin have to be highly reflective as well. Just like a real mirror. And any hairline scratches or marks will detract from the grade.

You could always visit your local coin shop and compare your coin to some already slabbed. Or if need be - visit ebay and use the pics there. If your coin looks as good as those slabbed - then ya got a shot. But be honest with yourself.
