    Hows that a problem?
    Do #2 then when your done return the 99% of the rolls back and then go with #1 :D
    Problem solved.

    yeah just what I was thinking - search $20 worth of rolls and take the non-keepers to the coin shop and buy a Red Book :)

    Yea, I would roll search, don't worry about rushing to replace your red book, I don't think the prices will be THAT much different

    Roll search, early and often. Although $20 isn't alot of starting capital.

    I started with $250.

    Downsides to roll searching;
    People think you're crazy.
    Guilt about making the bank pay for your hobby.
    Possibility of upsetting a bank too much and getting blacklisted.
    After gas, time, etc. roll searching is, at best, a break-even hobby.
    Possibility you get under-credited when turning in change and lose money.

    Upsides;
    If you're one of the lucky ones, you can make a LOT of money.
    Good way to bulk up your collection while spending next to nothing.

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

    If i was you I would wait another year to get a new redbook. My last one is a 2007 and I just just got the 2011, I probably could of waited another year even.

    It can happen *** http://www.cointalk.com/t109004/ ***there also was a guy on here that found over 300 Franklins in a batch of halves as well as loads of other stuff. I can't find that post.

    That's what I was alluding to. But it's rare, very rare. I've gone through nearly $15k and only found 10 90%'s, but 47 40%'s.

    I've been through about $50000 worth in the last two months. I plan on doing $6000 this week. With the exception of the big haul I have found about 250 40% coins and 40 90% coins. I am keeping some of the nicer 40% coins for my collection and to pass on. My goal is to get a full $1000 face bag. Once I have that I feel I'll be "safe" with my investment because I will be able to get the advertised buy price and places like Monex.

    Just found my first 40% today! Even if you don't make money, it's still a great way to start the hobby with little to no loss, plus it's exciting to find silver or even just early date cents if you take that route

    Fifty-do you just go to the bank and get $500 box's? So with that 6k your lugging 12 box's this week alone?

    Yes. I've got 6 boxes left from last week I need to turn in. I'm getting six more tomorrow. On Wednesday I'll return all 12 to my credit union. For that I'll have to use my hand truck.

    I agree! I am brand new to this and have had a blast going through rolls. Plus, the closest coin dealer is 30 miles away and has just stupidly outrageous prices on his stuff. I've already checked all the local antique and junk stores and found nothing. That pretty much just leaves me with roll searching (and Ebay, which is not bad, but can be dangersou) as my only option till I decide to spend an entire Saturday driving from town to town going through antique and junk stores and looking for a hole in the wall coin dealer with reasonable prices.

    A good place for supplies that I never suspected was Books-a-Million. They have a whole wall of loupes, albums, folders, coin tubes, 2x2s, and all that good stuff!
