Should the mint master Daniel Carr make 2013 Canadian pennies next or will the Canadian government punish him for it?
Let the Canadians worry about it............ Frankly, the US authorities haven't had a problem with him, and neither have I.
Probably won't happen UNLESS Dan comes across an interesting design twist. For example, Dan's recent 1907 Lincoln Cent featured an accurate reduction of an original bronze plaque of Victor D. Brenner’s 1907 bust of Lincoln: http://www.moonlightmint.com/blog_20.htm
A 2013 Canadian cent? Yawn. Instead, maybe Dan would consider making 1919, 1921, and 2020 Canadian cents. Why? 1920 was the last year for the large Canadian cent (25.4mm) and also the first year for the small Canadian cent (19.05mm). So, for fantasy overstrikes I'd suggest a 1919 small cent and a 1921 large cent. Also, 2020 is a 100th anniversary... maybe small cent and large cent commemorative tokens. Maybe a bi-metallic too? I have long opposed many of the Dan Carr fantasy date products because somewhere down the line, they will be used to cheat ignorant people. I am talking about items like his 1975 quarter, which was, of course, never made by the government because all of the coins were double dated 1776-1976 for the Bicentennial. The man has incredible talent, and I suppose to get paid for his work, he needs to make stuff like this. But it’s got the potential to do harm to the hobby. Politically he is a libertarian. I have found some of his products along that line interesting, but every time I saw one that I liked it was sold out. So I don’t have any his pieces in my collection.
No, and one can only hope that Canada would care more about protecting its coinage and coin designs than U.S. authorities do about protecting U.S. coinage interests. I find no discernible talent with regards to the production of "fantasy" coins either. The designs are not his. Any one can hire someone to use a computer and make counterfeit dies and change a single digit in the date. There is no artistry or extraordinary talent involved.
Hopefully not. Maybe he should start making fake Chinese coins to pay them back for the fake us coins
