This buffalo i purchased i feel may be upgradeable.i wanted to get some ofyour opinions out there. Any help appreciated.
something like that. honestly though i cant see more than two small hairlines maybe its the tone thats helping but it looks perfect plus in hand the tone is navy blue in spots and many other colors just think its a real nice buff
I agree leave it as is, the rattler adds some value to it.(IMO) By the time you pay for grading and s&h if you get a 66 will you be any farther ahead?
I'm with the crowd. When you do a PCGS regrade they will crack the coin, kill the old cert# and grade it again. The coin is guaranteed not to downgrade. By that PCGS means if the coin doesn't merit its current grade their buy-back/payout kicks in. If the coin is deemed properly graded then it will be put in a modern slab and assigned a new cert#. If it deserves an upgrade, you win. But how much value have you added versus what you've spent for shipping and insurance, grading fees, etc.? In all likelihood the coin will come back the same grade, statistically speaking. So you've just blown $30+ and lost the rattler. Furthermore, the coin has been re-exposed to the elements and handling (PCGS never uses gloves), airborne particles. Pray the grader wasn't having allergy problems. Better to keep it in its rattler and when the time comes to sell let potential buys feel it might upgrade and/or is finer than its rattler grade. Lance.
first off Beautiful Coin! Regardless of PCGS's policies, I don't think there is ANY chance of a downgrade with a slight chance of an upgrade. It's a beautiful coin but the obverse strike isn't the best I've seen. Also, the above posters are correct in that the old slab brings a premium. For $100-$150 upgrade, I wouldn't resubmit. Bottom line, I would leave it as is.
I would have to agree with the gang above. Lance has it about right -- you'll lose the rattler holder, which has some cache. It is hard to tell for sure from these pictures but the strike, particularly on the reverse, looks a little weak to me so 65 may be the proper grade. Also, there is some streak toning on reverse and my experience with PCGS is that they tend to view this type of toning as neutral with respect to grading. It looks like a nice example with few marks so I would leave it alone and enjoy it.
Not exactly sure what that means. CAC is very cheap ($10 for most coins, and only if it stickers). Well worth it, IMO. True, there is shipping and insurance both ways. And if you're not approved to submit directly there may be dealer middleman fees. Still, it is widely agreed that CAC coins sell for better money. If your Buffalo is truly undergraded it will earn a gold sticker, virtually guaranteeing an excellent price. Lance.
I didnt know cac was only charging ten dollars i figured it was The same as a pcgs or ngc grading fee. Sounds like a cool idea to me.thanks
