Should be an interesting experiment

I know alot of you, like myself, like to give half dollars and 2 dollar bills for tips.
Well, today I visited my friend/good acquaintance where she works - a restaurant.

Anyways, I gave her 3.50 in tip, the .50 being a half dollar.

Now here's the experiment part. I see her twice on Mondays (in 2 classes).
So Monday, I'll get to ask her what she did, or what she is going to do with the half dollar.

Im interested to see if she says she's keeping it, or if she's going to spend it...

    I'll find out Monday :)

edit: I might add its controlled because I didnt tell her anything about it. I just gave it to her with the dollar bills. :D

Well if she says that she is keeping I would say that he is hoping for a date....

haha, funny you should mention that, as you actually hit on something I was hoping for, however, that is not what the experiment is.

    The experiment is:
What happens to an "odd denomination" after you give it away as a tip?
Do they keep it, spend it? sell it?

Thats my question. Every time I give a 2 dollar bill as a tip, I always wonder where it goes afterwards.
Since I know her, I'll be able to find out. :)

edit: the date of the coin might effect the outcome, as it was a 1972 half dollar... we'll see.

Ahh.. the old 'leave a half dollar as a tip and pretend it's an expiriment' trick... Who hasn't used that one. That's probably how most of the people here met their wife.

It is kinda interesting. I go to a nice resturaunt on a pretty regular basis, and eat and drink at the bar. The normal bartender is a dude, so the date thing does not come into play here. LOL. But I have tipped him with half dollars on several occasions. I think next time I go, I'll ask him if he spent them or kept them.

Trust me...I've thought about it ;) But I've never done it. But then I've also thought about finding a guy who collects coins who also has a sister :D :D

For those of us who can't get dates, there's always the type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter to get us through the night. :hail:

    haha yeah.
But actually I gave the half dollar with no intention of that. It wasnt until after, it I thought "hey, I can find out where it goes."

    Nice Magman...
If you really want to impress her, leave her an SGS MS-70 1972 half dollar, those 64 Kennedy and Franklin guys wont stand a chance !!

I use clad kennedy's, sba's, sacs & ike dollars with my tip money .. ~ i usually imagine the waitstaff wondering all weekend what the 'fortune' may be ... then making their way into coin shops on monday morning, getting told 'face value' and them thinking 'that cheap witch....' as they forget it was only 'part' of the tip... but none of this is for dating ~ just to get coins back into circulation and hopefully spark 'some' interest in coin collecting if the shop owner explains it right.
