I remember my father had a couple of those. His Marine buddies all signed them when he was in the corps...

it was a note circulated in either WWI or WWII, people signed the note as it was spent, the longer the sig list on the snorter got free drinks .... I will have to look up exactly what it was and its purpose

here is a nice link ...

They weren't meant to be spent. They were signed by your buddies or acquaintences in the military. People often strung a bunch of them end to end.

At one point it had something to do with crossing the ocean in WWII - you signed it when you achieved that feat. There was also some alcohol related thing to it (snorter).

By the way. WWII short snorters are a great piece of history, but why not create your own?

I have a Saddam banknote signed by a bunch of guys stationed in Iraq.

There are many, many different (and sometimes conflicting) explanations of short shorters, how they originated, and what their purpose was! The common thread is currency signed by multiple parties.
