I’ll tell you a story about that shield nickel. I took a hiatus from serious coin collecting while I raised my boys and got reinvigorated about eight years ago. I hadn’t been to a coin show for over twenty years so when a large show was advertised in my state, I was all in…. Only issue is that I was in line for a knee replacement as my right knee was shot. I gave myself two days to enjoy the show and as it happened, my local dealer buddy was there…… On day one I made a few purchases but had zeroed in on one dealer that had a case of high grade MS and proof shield nickels. I was gonna score one on day two after I spent some time in my hotel room that evening studying up on MS and proof shield nickel values….. Day two arrived and my bad knee looked like a cantaloupe. No way I was going to walk the bourse….. I called my dealer buddy and asked him to pick me up a nice shield nickel since I couldn’t return to the show and that was the nickel he he found for me. I appreciated the coin, but it wasn’t that gleaming shield nickel that I REALLY wanted so I always viewed that one as a disappointment. I have since scratched that itch and have several spanking sharp shield nickels, so the one you now own is in a home where it can be appreciated as it should be.
