Trying to educate myself I purchased this coin. Sold as a 1987d dd shear type. Never heard of it...any ideas?

I think that would be another term for mechanical doubling. Got any pictures?

Shear type? I have no idea what that means...did you pay much for it?

The picture looks like this '87D has die deterioration doubling (DDD)

Never heard of it either. Did a search and nothing. Kind of tells me it was made up. I see the picture and it was made up. Sorry, hope you didn't pay more then a cent for it.

It depends on the direction of the light when it was shot. (Of course I could be wrong, the picture is small and washed out - but it doesn't look like a doubled die.)

Anyway, I am working on photos and information for Other Forms of Doubling, here is a preview post on LCR that covers DDD: LINK

Jcuve I think I paid .20 for it. The pic is terrible I need to find out why my first pics when I joined are so much better. Either myself or the wife may have set up the camera setting different. I'll figure it out in time I'm sure.

    Thanks

Great link Jcuve! I have the same 1955 which he calls "last 5 shift". Looks like I need to find another "guru". Anyone know someone that knows errors in The Jacksonville fl area?
