I was in Chinatown today in San Francisco and I have never seen that many fakes/replicas/counterfits in my life. Has anyone else witnessed this in SF Chinatown? If there's this many fakes here , can you imagine the damage to our hobby because of this quick buck thirst. Am I the only one who feels this way?
I have never shopped for coins in SF but toyed with the idea of attending the coin show at the granite lady last weekend. Were the repros at coin shops or were they in those touristy novelty and souvenir shops? Which coins were they predominantly trying to pass as genuine? -LTB
I've seen them a lot in tourist shops in Chinatown. A few years ago I bought a whole book of different fakes just because I thought they were neat, and for $6 I got 25 fakes. I suppose if I ever buy the real ones I'll have these to use as reference to check their authenticity. Guy~
I lived in Benicia (Ben-Knee-Shaw) for years, and would make the trip across the bay to the city specifically to go to chinatown....those fakes have been running around that area for a long time.
